Glens see off Harris but still trail Alloa in race for Division One title

Alloa turned on the style to blow open the race for the top two spots in BT Caledonia Division One with a 44-24 win over league leaders Caithness.

Alloa sit two points clear of fourth-placed Glenrothes, who were 33-9 winners at home to Harris FP.

Tries by Scott Morrison and Chris Docherty, both converted by Kain Duguid, saw the Fifers into a 14-6 interval lead, with two penalties by Stewart Walker keeping the visitors in the game.

However, the hosts had the better of the second period with Barry Crookston touching down twice and Cammy Goodall also crossing the whitewash, with Duguid adding two conversion­s while all Harris could muster was another Walker penalty.

Strathmore remain firmly in the promotion chase after seeing off Aberdeen Wanderers 27-17 at Inchmacobl­e.

The sides reached the break locked at 12-12 and the hosts fell behind to a try by the visitors before raising the pace to claim all five league points.

Meanwhile Dunfermlin­e eased to a 38-8 win at home to Carnoustie.

Harvey Gardiner and Paul McKinlay had two tries each for the Fifers, while Duncan Campbell and Martin Punter claimed one and Graeme Low was on target with four conversion­s.

In Division Two (Midlands) Kirkcaldy seconds moved out of the bottom two after chalking up a 45-14 win at Kinross, while Falkirk seconds were 40-15 winners at Panmure..

Blairgowri­e beat Crieff & Strathearn 18-7 at home, while Howe of Fife seconds drew 24-24 at home to Morgan Academy.

Division Three Midlands (North) table toppers Waid Academy posted a 96-7 win at Stobswell that keeps them two points clear of Dundee University Medics, who were 39-24 winners at Aberfeldy.

Madras remain in the title hunt following a 42-22 win away to Arbroath, while the Angus Developmen­t XV squeezed home 20-18 against Perthshire seconds.

Fife Southern maintained their challenge with a 48-3 win at Bo’ness and Hillfoots seconds saw off their Glenrothes counterpar­ts 60-14.
