Ritchie at double for Bluebells

Lochee United dominate but settle for 2-0 away victory

- PETER RUNDO

A Reece Ritchie double earned Lochee United a thoroughly deserved victory away to bottom-of-the-table Newtongrange Star.

The only surprise given the Bluebells’ domination, especially in the second half, was the margin wasn’t greater.

Ritchie struck just before the interval and again just after the hour mark.

There was disappointment Broughty Athletic at home Camelon.

The Fed’s first-half profligacy in front of goal came back to haunt them in the second period when Stuart Bell scored the only goal of the for to game for the well-organised visitors after 52 minutes.

Once again, Carnoustie came from behind to earn a deserved point at Hill of Beath. Goalless after a quiet opening period, Haws took the lead on the hour thanks to Greg Smith’s sublime strike.

Ten minutes later Jamie McCabe rammed in the rebound after Stuart Hall had saved his penalty.

In a proverbial game of two halves, Jeanfield Swifts had to be content with a point after surrendering a two-goal interval lead at Musselburgh.

Well on top in the first half, Tony Holt scored twice.

His first, after 27 minutes, was a 20-yard volley and he netted his second after a goalmouth scramble.

The changes Musselburgh made at half-time reversed fortunes with the hosts deservedly coming back to draw.

Poor home form continues to blight Dundonald as they lost 2-1 to Fauldhouse United, paying the price for missing too many chances.

Three good ones went begging before Bluebell fell behind in the first half and they let another gilt-edged chance slip by just before the break.

Defensive indecision led to the visitors doubling their lead from a penalty in the second half. Substitute Ben Anthony’s one exception to his side’s profligacy brought Bluebell what was only a consolation counter.
