Hundreds to gather for peaceful demonstration in bid to keep police focused on search

The father of a missing Glenrothes man says a peaceful demonstration this weekend is aimed at keeping police focused on finding his son.

Hundreds of people are expected to gather outside Police Scotland’s headquarters in Glenrothes on Sunday afternoon in support of the family of Allan Bryant Jr.

The third anniversary of Mr Bryant’s disappearance falls on Thursday, with no trace of him having been found after he left Styx nightclub in the town on November 3 2013.

Having voiced concerns over certain aspects of the police investigation in the past, his father, Allan Bryant, hopes Sunday’s gathering will help keep his son’s disappearance in the public eye and apply pressure on the force to keep searching for answers.

He said: “We’re holding this demonstration to keep the pressure on the Fife police division. Obviously this is not done lightly.

“We’ve actually done one in the past, which was five months after Allan went missing. This is due to the failure of Police Scotland for taking seven months to release our son’s CCTV footage, which is a hell of a long time. We were promised an incident van on November 9, when revellers’ minds were still fresh from the week before. It wasn’t there as I went to see it.

“I know these things are not going to bring Allan back but we don’t know who might have gone into that van, or if the CCTV was released earlier we don’t know who else might have come forward.”

High-profile appeals by the Bryant family and the police have followed the disappearance of Allan Jr, who would now be 26.

Police Scotland has confirmed the search for Allan Jr is the largest ever undertaken for a missing person in Fife, with dog teams having been deployed as far away as the East Neuk following information passed to investigating officers.

Despite this, Mr Bryant says he remains angry with what he believes are errors made by the police at the beginning of the investigation.

“We’ve put in a complaint with the professional standards department and this is still ongoing,” he added.

Sunday’s peaceful demonstration takes place at 1pm.

Obviously this is not done lightly. ALLAN BRYANT
