Former Muskie Robb hits double figures for Pride

-

Former Tayside Musketeer Hannah Robb stepped up into double figures for Scotland’s new semi-pro side Caledonia Pride with 12 points away to Manchester Mystics in the Women’s BBL at the weekend.

Pride led 18-16 after the first quarter and were only seven points down at half-time but they eventually succumbed 77-52 to the side that ousted them from the BBL Cup last month.

Edinburgh University first year student Robb is clearly being missed by her old club, however, as Muskies went down 49-45 away to Edinburgh side Polonia Phoenix in the Scottish Women’s League on the small court at Gracemount High School.

Muskies were actually 33-23 up but never managed to relax and hold their lead against an experienced team full of veteran former internationalists, including tall inside centre Les Jackson, the daughter of the former Hearts and Hibs goalkeeper Gordon Marshall, Julie Ritchie, who top scored with 16, and Lynsey Lochhead, who added 11.

Yhana Van Wees had 13, Laura Hare 12 and Paula Foster 10 for Muskies, who, though dominant at times, missed too many shots against a team they had beaten decisively in the Scottish Cup at home.

Winless Muskies men went down 65-45 to Edinburgh University in a home league game at Grove Academy, despite winning the third quarter 21-8.

Head coach John Grant knows he has a lot of hard work ahead to turn the season around.

“They shot brilliantly in the first half but we were missing two of our starters – it’s a long season and we’ve just not been able to get all our players training together,” said Grant.

Mexican student Rodrigo Colorado led EU with 16 points, while Greg Nalepa had 14 for Tayside.
