Police use youth volunteers to enlighten residents on security

-

Police in Perth and Kinross will be using youth volunteers over the next few weeks in a bid to clamp down on robberies committed when darkness falls.

Inspector Kevin Chase said the youths will identify households that don’t have lights on and will then deliver leaflets advising people to use various techniques to avoid break-ins.

“Residents should use dimmer switches and leave lights on in their house when they are out at night, or early evening,” he said.

“The youth volunteers will look for homes where it is obvious that people are out and leaflet them to advise them of safety measures.”

The initiative is part of the After Dark operation.
