“I kent fine”

-

Craigie reader Isabella Gray writes: “Quite recently I was asked by a former classmate at Morgan Academy, Dundee, now living abroad, if I knew what a piler was.

“Having been born and brought up in Dundee, I ‘kent fine’ but looked in my Pocket Scots Dictionary to be sure.

“It defines both the verb ‘to pile’ and the noun ‘piler’; pile is defined as ‘to increase the speed of a swing, scooter etc by moving the hands or feet’ while a piler is defined as ‘a boy’s home made cart, propelled this way.’”
