Konta and Kvitova make last four in Elite Trophy
Johanna Konta and Petra Kvitova completed the semifinal line-up with victories at the WTA Elite Trophy in Zhuhai yesterday.
Top seed Konta was in dominant form again as she eased to a 6-2 6-2 victory over France’s Caroline Garcia in exactly an hour.
Kvitova took 11 minutes longer to see off Barbora Strycova 6-1 6-4 and continue her fine end-of-season form.
Konta said: “I really felt I played a very consistent match. I didn’t give her many windows [of opportunity] and I’m very happy I managed to do that today.
“She has such a big game so I really needed to apply myself on every point,” she added.
“Right now, it’s just one more match tomorrow. I’m not looking any further than that. I’m going to have a very tough one, and I’m looking to compete as best I can.”
Konta and Kvitova could meet in the final, with the British number one taking on Elina Svitolina in the last four and Kvitova facing home hope Zhang Shuai.
