Harris FPs falter in second half
Caithness spoiled the party for Harris FPs when they inflicted a 47-22 defeat on the Dundonians at Elliot Road in BT Caledonia Division 1.
Harris led 17-14 at halftime through tries from Adam Wood, Stewart Walker and Mike Devlin, the latter converted by Walker.
But the hosts struggled in the second half, although a Joe Abbott touchdown garnered a four-try bonus.
“It was a rather good firsthalf performance from Harris and the half-time score gave rise for a degree of optimism”, said spokesman Davie Stibbles.
“Alas, Harris were somewhat disappointing in that second half. Not the way we wanted to celebrate the club’s 90th birthday.”
Alloa displayed their fighting qualities with a 19-16 victory at Aberdeen Wanderers.
Glenrothes remain in the title race after a 36-0 win at Carnoustie. Tries by Steven Dean, Ross Hutchison and Cammy Goodall plus a Kain Duguid conversion saw the Fifers into a 17-0 interval lead.
They completed the job with further tries from Michael Delorey, Ross Hutchison and David Gray, two of them converted by Duguid.
It was also a successful day for Strathmore, who travelled to meet basement side Mackie Academy and returned with a 34-7 success that keeps the Inchmacoble men in fifth.
Dunfermline welcomed leaders Gordonians to McKane Park and went down 44-3.
Division 2 (Midlands) leaders Grangemouth Stags had a day off as Howe of Fife II had difficulties raising a team.
Falkirk II chalked up a 71-21 win at home to Blairgowrie.
Third-placed Hillfoots took all five league points with a 57-0 win at home to bottom side Kinross.
Kirkcaldy II drew clear of the relegation battle with a 31-8 success at Panmure.
Waid Academy continue to set the pace in Division 3 Midlands (North) after a 48-5 win at home to the Angus Development side.
Madras posted an 88-5 win at home to Stobswell, and Arbroath had a 32-17 victory at home to Aberfeldy.
Division 3 Midlands (South) pacesetters Stirling Bridgehaugh strolled to a 111-7 win at home to Hillfoots II.
Grangemouth II posted a 32-20 win at home to Fife Southern Sharks, while Bannockburn saw off Bo’ness 29-7.
