Kelty hit five at Lochee

Leaders move 10 points clear at top with crushing victory

- MarK JohnsTon

“Men against boys” was the comment from the terraces at Thomson Park as Lochee United went down 5-0 to runaway Super League leaders Kelty Hearts.

Scott Dalziel got Tam Courts’ side off and running on 10 minutes before adding a second on the half-hour.

It got worse for the Bluebells just before the break as keeper Mark Fotheringham was sent off and Stephen Husband compounded the misery by scoring from the resultant free-kick.

Craig Thomson scored a goal-of-theseason contender on 65 minutes before former Dundee United striker Jordan Moore scored his side’s fifth goal as they moved 10 points clear of Bonnyrigg Rose in second place.

Broughty Athletic are in danger of slipping away from the pack chasing Kelty after they went down to their third successive defeat, this time at Bo’ness United.

Fraser Keast put United in front before the break and then doubled the advantage on the hour. Roddy Maclennan made sure of the points with a third seven minutes from time.

Hill of Beath made Bonnyrigg Rose work hard for the points as they went down 1-0 at New Dundas Park.

The reigning champions, who face Dumbarton in the Scottish Cup, scored the only goal of the game through Sean Jamieson on 36 minutes.

As the game petered out, tempers flared and Shaun Leishman was sent off for the Haws for a bad challenge.

It appears that Premier League wins for Violet are like Dundee buses – you get nothing and then two come at once.

Ralph Henderson’s Pansies followed up last week’s first win of the season with their first away win at Armadale Thistle. Ryan Rigden, from the penalty spot, and Gavin Hood were the Violet scorers.

Glenrothes’ form away from home may be dreadful, but they are turning Warout into the fortress of years passed.

Saturday saw John Martin’s side beat Bathgate Thistle 3-1.

All the goals came in the second half with Ross Mutch opening Glens’ account on 56 minutes. Ritchie Hutton equalised for the visitors 10 minutes later but Glens were in no mood to relinquish the points as a Scott Napier double, on 79 and 86 minutes, secured all three and lifted his side above the visitors in the table.

Tayport were denied a point from their first trip to Treaton Park in 31 years when a late Jamie Mackie equaliser was ruled out for offside, the aftermath seeing Mackie ordered off for foul and abusive language.

Tayport took the lead on 15 minutes when Dale Reid slotted the ball home. Kennoway were level on the half-hour when Kyle Wilson raced clear before slipping the ball past Gavin Sorley.

Eight minutes later the home side were in front through a Matthew Gay free-kick and just before the break Kieran Band volleyed his side 3-1 up.

Mackie set up Reid to score his second midway through the second half but the hosts should have inflicted more woe on John Ovenstone’s side but found Sorley in great form.

Apart from Mackie’s disallowed effort, Port failed to really threaten and Kennoway took the points, lifting them above Forfar West End into second.

St Andrews United were left rueing missed chances as they went down 1-0 at home to Tranent.

Saints have now gone eight games since they last recorded a win in the Premier league.
