Tenth anniversary of film festival

-

A film festival based in Highland Perthshire has organised a series of events to mark its 10th anniversary.

Running from November 18 to 20, the Aberfeldy Film Festival will see a range of movies, talks by directors, music and activities take place at several venues, including the community-run Birks Cinema.

An incredible 104 children have made 18 films for the Young Indies Short Film Competition. All the movies will be shown at the Birks Cinema on the morning of November 20 and the audience will be able to vote with the judges to decide the winner.

In addition, the new Young Indies event will run alongside the Palme Dewar Short Film Competition.

The festival tries to show a short film before every feature during the festival, with a mix of Scottish and foreign shorts, and had invited filmmakers to come and do a short ‘Q&A.’ This year it will feature Swiss/Italian film directors Riccardo Bernasconi and Francesca Reverdito.

Richard Bowden, chairman of Heartland Film Society, said: “We hope this year will be the best yet and we are really excited about it. Past festivals offered animation workshops for children and young people, which proved so popular that we ran two filmmaking workshops to encourage entries to our new Young Indies event.

“We hope this will prove as successful as Palme Dewar in bringing the public to see the entries and vote for the winner.”
