Prime Minister wishes both Trump and Clinton good luck
Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump have been wished good luck by Prime Minister Theresa May as they begin their final full day of campaigning for the United States presidency.
Asked if the PM had a message for the pair, a Downing Street spokesman told a Westminster briefing: “I think the Prime Minister would wish them both good luck.”
It came after Mr Trump accused the FBI of impropriety for declaring that Mrs Clinton should not face criminal charges over her handling of classified information while US secretary of state.
FBI director James Comey’s announcement caused relief to the Democratic campaign after the investigation into a newly-discovered tranche of emails threatened to derail her lead over her Republican rival.
Meanwhile, Mr Trump’s campaign manager has insisted that he has not been stopped by his staff from tweeting.
The usually outspoken candidate has appeared more restrained online in recent days and the New York Times claimed on Sunday that aides “have finally wrested away” his Twitter account.
But his campaign manager Kellyanne Conway insisted: “No, it’s not true.”
According to RealClear Politics, most polls yesterday showed gains for Mrs Clinton and she is still narrowly expected to be elected president in the early hours of tomorrow, UK time.
FiveThirtyEight, the website of renowned pollster Nate Silver, gives Mrs Clinton a 65.8% chance of winning, with Mr Trump on 34.2%.
