Stew and scones
“Regarding the recent controversy about bakers and scones,” writes Thomas Michie of Kinglassie, “as a former baker to trade, I remember years ago in the mining communitites the local bakers produced dozens of hot plate white scones on a Saturday.
“These were often referred to by customers as griddle scones.
“There was a tradition that miners and their families had beef stew and scones on a Sunday morning for breakfast. The stew was cooked on the Saturday ready for the next day.”
