Carlhurlie Aberdeen Angus sale

Pedigree Aberdeen Angus animals from the Fife herd of Carlhurlie cattle went under the hammer at Stirling yesterday, with the stock from the late Rae Grieve’s herd selling to a top of 11,500gns.

The price was paid for Carlhurlie Darcy, a May 2014-born in-calf heifer by Skaill Dido.

She was bought by Alastair and Graham Fraser, Idvies, Forfar.

The next highest animal also went to a new home at Forfar.

She was Carlhurlie Erstic, another in-calf heifer, this time by Wedderlie Posse.

She was bought by Stuart Raeburn, Burnside of Tulloes at Letham.

Cows and calves sold to a top of 8,500gns for Carlhurlie Elixir and her male calf Carlhurlie Elemis.

The cow was bought for 6,500gns by Donald Rankin from the Isle of Skye and the calf made 2,000gns to George Milne, Kinaldy, St Andrews. Another pair made 6,000gns. This was Carlhurlie Emma, an April 2013 cow bought by Messrs Provan, Parkhall , Douglas for 3,000gns and her female calf, Carlhurlie Emmalee, which made the same price.

The selection of maiden heifers made a top price of 7,000gns for Carlhurlie Quintessa, bought by Messrs Wilson, Carskerdo, Cupar.

And the top price for maiden heifers was 4,500gns, for Carlhurlie Eolian, bought by the Walker family at Galcantray, Nairn.

Bulls sold to a top of 8,000gns for the four-year-old Balmachie Black Bard which was bought by Messrs Henderson, Culrain Mains, Bonar Bridge.

Averages: 35 cows with calves at foot – £2,745.44, 11 in-calf cows – £1,522.50; 15 in-calf heifers – £3,934; 21 maiden heifers – £2,835; four bulls – £5,250.
