Music fan caught with cannabis and cocaine at T in the Park

-

A music fan who had travelled to T in the Park from England was caught with four drug packages as he arrived at the festival.

Perth Sheriff Court heard that Bruce Edwards, 20, of Twyford, Berkshire, had learnt a “salutary lesson” after “stupidly” taking the drugs to the event, which was held at Strathallan Estate.

The court heard that drug sniffer dogs detected the illegal substances and Edwards was subsequently searched. Officers found 0.6 grammes of cannabis, with a value of £2, 2.6 grammes of cannabis, valued at £25, 6.4 grammes of cocaine, worth £200 and £100 worth of amphetamine.

Solicitor John McLaughlin, defending, said his client didn’t usually take drugs and described the incident as a “one-off.”

“My client stupidly bought these drugs but was caught at the entrance to the festival,” he explained.

“It has cost him around £500 for travel arrangements for this court appearance.”

Edwards admitted that on July 8 at T in the Park, Strathallan Estate, he had two amounts of cannabis – a class ‘B’ drug – in his possession.

He also pleaded guilty to further charges that on the same date and location he had cocaine and amphetamine – both class ‘A’ drugs – in his possession.

Fining Edwards £600, Sheriff Gillian Wade told him: “Having class ‘A’ drugs is a serious offence.”

Andrew Hutchison, 36, of West Calder, was ordered to carry out 165 hours’ unpaid work in the community.

He admitted that on July 9 at T in the Park, Strathallan Estate, he had cocaine in his possession.
