Gold Cup glory beckons for Module

Promising signs last month can be built on at Cheltenham tomorrow

- The FerreT

MODULE can begin to make up for lost time with victory in the Caspian Caviar Gold Cup at Cheltenham.

A couple of seasons ago the nineyear-old was mixing it with the best, with his victory in the 2014 Game Spirit at Newbury and third place in the Queen Mother Champion Chase earning him a rating in the 160s.

Not much has gone right for Tom George’s charge since, with some uninspiring performances following by an 18-month lay-off due to injury.

However, there was definitely promise in his Cheltenham comeback last month, running well for a long way in the Shloer Chase before being found out against sharper rivals.

MY TENT OR YOURS disappointed on his reappearance at Haydock but can get back on the right track in the stanjames.com International Hurdle.

Nicky Henderson’s runner famously came back from two years on the sidelines with a cracking second in last season’s Champion Hurdle before filling the same position behind Annie Power again at Aintree.

The nine-year-old then rolled on to Punchestown where Vroum Vroum Mag was too sharp, but many expected him to score his first win in the best part of three years on Merseyside last time.

However, My Tent Or Yours trailed home third behind Ch’Tibello that day, raising plenty of question marks about what route he should take now.

It should pay to keep the faith though as the heavy ground at Haydock that day probably did not play to his strengths on his return from a break.

DEFI DU SEUIL impressed at last month’s Open meeting with a hardheld Grade Two victory and he can add to his laurels in the JCB Triumph Trial Juvenile Hurdle. Philip Hobbs’ runner must shoulder a penalty here but even the extra weight cannot dampen enthusiasm for this classy performer.
