Dundee is set to host auditions for TV juggernaut the X Factor next month.

The show’s production team will be holding open auditions in the Overgate Shopping Centre on Friday February 10 between 11am and 5pm.

The judges – who will not include famous faces from the show such as Simon Cowell – are looking for a range of fresh talent for the new series.

Hopefuls will be expected to audition in the X Factor booth, which will be on the lower level.

Solo singers and groups are welcome to try their hand but must be aged 16 or over.

Overgate manager Malcolm Angus said: “This is a unique opportunity for aspiring singers and bands to let their talent shine in front of the influential X Factor production team.

“We are expecting a huge response on the 10th and would encourage interested talent who think they have what it takes to come to the Overgate and meet the team.”

Auditions were held in the city for the first time in 2015, with the X Factor production team also visiting other locations in Scotland, including Perth, Inverness, Elgin, Aberdeen, Stirling and Edinburgh.

Last year’s competition was won by 23-year-old Londoner Matt Terry, who won the hearts of viewers across the country.

His single, When Christmas Comes Around, charted at number eight over Christmas, with Clean Bandit’s Rockabye claiming top spot.

Matt, alongside runner-up Saara Aalto and the other finalists – 5 After Midnight, Honey G, Emily Middlemas, Four of Diamonds, Ryan Lawrie and Sam Lavery – are gearing up for a UKwide tour.

They will begin in Nottingham on February 23 before heading north the following week.
