Motorists caught up in M90 misery as roadworks cause lengthy tailbacks
Motorists are facing another week of motorway misery as roadworks on the M90 cause long tailbacks.
Resurfacing work between junctions 7 and 8 on the northbound carriageway has led to queues of several miles in both directions morning and evening.
Northbound traffic is being diverted on to a contraflow on the southbound carriageway from just north of junction 6, with a 50mph limit in force.
The sliproad at junction 7 has been closed, with traffic being diverted back to junction 6 via the A91, A922, B966, B918 and A922.
One motorist who regularly drives between Fife and Perth at rush hour said: “It’s just jam packed morning and evening. You can easily be queueing for a quarter of an hour but it has been much longer.
“I tried to divert via Milnathort on the first morning and get back on to the M90 there but unfortunately I found out too late that the slip road is closed and had to come back the way I came.”
The £380,000 programme of work follows on from a similar project south of the current site last year.
A spokesperson for BEAR Scotland said: “The current improvements between junction 7 and 8 are the ninth phase in a strategy to replace the carriageway between junctions 5 and 8 of the northbound M90.
“So far over five miles of this eight-mile stretch of busy motorway has been replaced in the past two years, representing an investment of more than £3 million from Transport Scotland.
“The works programme has been split into different phases to minimise the overall impact to road users.
“The treatment, which will provide a durable and smoother surface for road users, involves the removal of a layer of the road surface.”
