Dembele and Gordon stay with Celtic

-

Moussa Dembele delighted the Celtic fans by pledging his allegiance to the club amid interest from Chelsea.

Respected newspaper L’Equipe even claimed Chelsea submitted a £40 million bid for the France Under-21 international but Celtic maintained that Dembele and goalkeeper Craig Gordon would not be going to Stamford Bridge in this window.

Dembele was pictured on a flight to London early in the day but it emerged he was going for a scan on his knee and he delivered an emphatic signal that he was staying.

The former Fulham striker tweeted a photo of Leonardo DiCaprio delivering the “I’m not leaving” speech from the Wolf of Wall Street film, with himself in a similar pose.

Celtic earlier confirmed they had rejected an offer for Gordon but at least two players were heading for the exit door as the deadline approached.

Motherwell confirmed their interest in a loan move for former Dundee United attacker Nadir Ciftci, while Efe Ambrose was trying to sort a move to Blackburn.

Rangers sold goalkeeper Matt Gilks to Wigan for an undisclosed fee 24 hours after Jak Alnwick arrived from Port Vale. But reported target Reece Oxford joined Reading on loan from West Ham.

Kilmarnock also completed two loan deals, bringing in Dundee United target Conor Sammon from Hearts and signing 19-year-old Charlton forward Josh Umerah. Scott Boyd signed an 18-month contract after his loan move from Ross County.

Inverness Caledonian Thistle swooped for a second former Dundee United striker.

Billy McKay joined Henri Anier in the Highlands after agreeing a loan switch from Wigan through to the end of the season and played in last night’s 3-0 defeat by Hamilton.

Falkirk snapped up former Burnley, Bolton and Morton midfielder Joe McKee on loan.

Justin Johnson, who has been on loan at York City, was released by Dundee United.
