Man dies in Angus road tragedy
Car hit lorry parked in layby between Forfar and Dundee
A driver died in a horrific crash on the A90 between Forfar and Dundee yesterday.
The accident happened after a car struck a parked lorry in a layby between Happas and Muiryfaulds garage just after 6am.
The tragedy sparked a major emergency response and led to some delays for northbound motorists as investigators probed the circumstances of the collision and the wreckage was cleared from the scene.
The incident happened on a straight stretch of the busy trunk road and it is understood the car crashed into the back of a parked Asda articulated lorry which was parked in the layby at Gallowfauld.
Emergency services quickly set up tarpaulins to shroud the accident scene and northbound traffic was reduced to one lane for a period.
The southbound carriageway was not affected by the accident.
Three Scottish Fire and Rescue Service appliances from Dundee’s Kingsway and Macalpine Road stations were in attendance.
One machine remained on scene for several hours while the accident investigation was completed, during which the layby was closed to traffic.
It took police a number of hours to confirm the fatality, with the identity of the victim yet to be released.
In a statement late yesterday afternoon Police Scotland said: “Police Scotland can confirm that a man sadly died as a result of a road traffic collision on A90 near Gallowfauld, Tealing, Angus, this morning.
“Inquiries are continuing and no further details will be released until next of kin have been informed and formal identification has been carried out.”
