- Stewart alexander

A police watchdog is to investigate officers following the discovery of a 42-year-old man’s body.

The Police Investigations and Review Commissioner (Pirc) will investigate after the body of Peter Ritchie was found near the village of Kippen, Stirlingshire, on Monday.

The investigation will examine the actions of officers in responding to calls made by the public and Mr Ritchie’s family.

A Pirc spokesman said: “The investigation will focus on the actions of Police Scotland when responding to telephone calls made by members of the public and family on Sunday January 29 and Monday January 30 2017.

“A report on the commissioner’s findings will be submitted to the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service in due course.”

Mr Ritchie’s family issued a statement through Pirc following his death.

They said: “Peter was a much-loved son and brother and as a family, we have been left devastated by his death.

“It will take time to come to terms with this loss, and as such we would ask for our privacy to be respected so that we can grieve in peace.”
