Evasion costs £250m

The BBC lost at least £250 million to licence fee evasion in 2015-16, the National Audit Office has said.

The proportion of premises that should have paid but did not increased from 5%-6% in 2014-15 to 6%-7%.

The increase can largely be attributed to the changes in the way the number of TV-owning households is calculated, but fewer evaders have been caught in recent years, despite increased numbers of visits.
