Dairy industry figures to converge on Carlisle

-

The very best of British dairy genetics and industry innovations will be showcased to a global audience in Carlisle.

Staged by livestock auctioneers Harrison & Hetherington, the flagship Borderway UK Dairy Expo event takes place for this sixth time this year, on March 11.

Since its inception in 2011, the expo has been billed as the UK’s leading dairy event, as well as one of the top dairy cattle shows in Europe.

The show now boasts an overall prize fund of £15,000.

It supports farmers and commercial representatives by bringing together not only the very best of British dairy cattle, but international dairy genetics, nutrition and the latest industry trends and technology.

Five additional classes for cattle have been added for this year’s show – taking classes to 67 – including for Holsteins, Ayrshire, Jersey, Dairy Shorthorn, Red and White, Brown Swiss and British Friesian animals.

David Pritchard, event organiser and operations director for H&H, said Borderway UK Dairy Expo has become a leading industry event.

“Once again this year we have a remarkable line-up of judges, all with a wealth of knowledge and experience in the industry, and all specialists in their field,” he said.

Now one of the dairy industry’s most notable awards, the John Dennison Lifetime Achievement Award is marked at the event and aims to recognise the dairy cattle breeder, or exhibitor judged to be a high achiever and excellent role model within the industry.

Nominations are being sought for 2017 award finalists. To make a nomination send a brief resume on the nominee to the John Dennison Lifetime Achievement Award, Borderway Mart, Rosehill, Carlisle, CA1 2RS.
