Gowfers seal double over Linlithgow

Macdonald fires home late winner for Gowfers to leave Rose stunned

- PETER RUNDO

Super League result of the day must go to Carnoustie Panmure as they came from behind at Prestonfield to beat Linlithgow Rose for a second time this season.

A measure of their 2-1 victory is that the Gowfers became the first side to record a league double over Rose since May 2015.

It was also their first win at Prestonfield in 10 attempts and was fully deserved.

Linlithgow probably just about edged the first half and capped it by taking the lead from a corner just before the break, with Colin Leiper heading home from three yards.

Gordon Macdonald equalised on the hour mark when he smashed home a free-kick from the edge of the box.

Macdonald hit the visitors’ winner 10 minutes from time, taking a Jamie McCabe pass in his stride and beating a defender before firing into the bottom corner to secure a memorable victory.

The Kelty bandwagon continues to roll along as the league leaders chalked up a 3-0 win at Camelon, one of only two sides to take a point off them.

An altercation after 16 minutes saw both teams reduced to 10 men with the home side’s James Donaldson and Hearts’ Stephen Husband sent off following an altercation.

New signing Jordyn Sheerin set up Scott Dalziel for the opener and then got in behind the home defence for the second. Brian Ritchie wrapped it up, giving the keeper no chance with the third after good work by Conrad Courts.

Injury-hit Jeanfield Swifts had no answer to Bo’ness United who powered their way to a 5-1 win at Newtown Park to plunge the Perth side deeper into relegation trouble.

Marty Wright fired the hosts in front after 12 minutes and Will Snowden’s close-range header doubled their lead on the half-hour mark.

Swifts fell further behind when Calum Smith scored the third, with Ross Philip and Smith again completing the home side’s tally. Scott Sutherland scored Swifts’ consolation goal with virtually the last kick of the game.

In the Premier League a stoppagetime winner enabled Forfar West End to overcome all their injury woes and collect three points from the visit of Bathgate Thistle. West End stay second in the table.

The result was all the more creditable as they fell behind to a 12th minute Robbie Feeney goal. Graeme Hart levelled on 36 minutes and it looked as through the leaders would have to settle for a point until Matty Ramsay tucked away a last-gasp penalty.

Tayport boss John Ovenstone was delighted with his troops after they had to dig deep for a 3-1 victory over Armadale at the Canniepairt.

He said: “It was always going to be a bit of a battle as we knew Armadale would set up to keep things tight and frustrate us. It was tough to break them down in difficult conditions.”

Only a great Gavin Sorley stop prevented Armadale from going ahead. It was Tayport, however, who took the lead thanks to Marc Ogg’s low drive on 28 minutes.

Thistle equalised courtesy of a wellstruck free kick, only for Port to regain the lead after 38 minutes when Gary Sutherland marked his Canniepairt return by hammering home from close range. Victory was sealed 15 minutes from the end thanks to a well-taken Jamie Mackie goal.

St Andrews were bitterly disappointed to come away from Tranent with nothing to show for their efforts.

The hosts stole victory thanks to a late Jack Wright goal. Earlier Kane Paterson’s opener for the Lothians side was cancelled out when an Aiden Hendry drive took a wicked deflection just before the break.
