Berrypickers hit for six by Thornton

-

Title-chasing Blairgowrie were hit for six by fellow promotion candidates Thornton Hibs in the North League’s match-of-the-day at Davie Park on Saturday.

The 6-0 hammering left the Perthshire side stunned and saw them slump to fifth in the table, three points behind leaders Kirrie Thistle, who have three games in hand.

The Fife outfit are now tied at the top with Kirrie, but have played a game more than the Westview Park side.

Four minutes were on the clock when Daniel McNab opened the scoring. Shaun Keatings added the second 20 minutes later and Nicky McGowan made it 3-0 shortly afterwards.

Chris Ireland hit the fourth before half-time, with Garry Thomson Sr adding number five two minutes after the restart. Keatings grabbed a sixth with 15 minutes left.

Kinnoull ran out comfortable 5-1 winners at home to bottom side Lochore Welfare.

Mark Smith fired a first-half brace before Robbie Norrie notched number three 10 minutes after the restart.

Lewis Thomson reduced the leeway only for a Rhys Davies double to complete a win that takes the Tulloch Park side up to third.

The pitch at Brownlands Park was probably the winner as Luncarty and East Craigie played out a goalless draw.

Conditions were very difficult due to the heavy surface, which was hardly conducive to good football. The game could best be summed up as tale of two keepers.

Luncarty’s Duncan Bruce had to come off midway through the first half but his replacement, outfield player Dan Walker, was rarely tested.

Counterpart Liam Dunn was man-of-the-match with a series of fine saves to keep the Bleachers – who face Auchinleck in the Scottish Cup next week – at bay.

Craigie co-boss Craig Brown was delighted with a third consecutive clean sheet, especially as two late call-offs meant six key players were missing.

Dundee North End went nap against hosts Forfar Albion. Zak Wilson bagged a brace, with Dayle Robertson, Euan Mc Ilvennie and Ryan Smith also chipping in at Guthrie Park.
