Dark Blues relish chance to add to Rangers’ woes

Defender believes Dark Blues could be facing struggling visitors at an ideal time

Cammy Kerr has told his Dundee teammates to relish Sunday’s showdown with crisis club Rangers because it is the ideal time to face them.

The Dark Blues, who are still searching for their first win in 2017, face the managerless Light Blues in the televised clash after the departure of Mark Warburton plunged the Ibrox outfit into chaos.

Rangers have begun their search for a replacement, with Alex McLeish widely touted to take over from Warburton.

But the Glasgow giants remain a staggering 27 points behind arch-rivals Celtic in the table and only just managed to scrape past Championship club Morton 2-1 in Sunday’s Scottish Cup tie as they prepare to head for Dens Park this weekend.

Kerr reckons Paul Hartley’s men should savour the prospect of trying to pile more misery on to Rangers.

He said: “I think we should all relish this game. The players won’t need any motivation to be up for it.

“It is against Rangers and they are obviously still one of the biggest teams in the country. We need to go out there and give a performance to the fans.

“We don’t really know what’s going on through at Rangers.

“It’s probably a good time to play them because you never know what will happen with all that’s going on.

“Everyone knows it’s been up and down for ourselves this year and we’ve lacked consistency. But hopefully we can find that vital consistency between now and the end of the season.”

Dundee moved from 10th to seventh in the Premiership following Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Kilmarnock but it was another opportunity missed to make it into the top-six.

Kerr added: “We’ve kind of stalled slightly recently. “We huffed and puffed really. “But we’re not making any excuses. “We’ll keep working away like we do every day in training and hopefully get back to winning ways.

“We would have liked to have got the three points but Kilmarnock had chances as well.”

Kerr, 21, set up Dundee’s equaliser with his cross to Kevin Holt against Killie and insists their training ground moves paid off.

He said: “I’ve been practising my crossing.

“Holty made a great run, which he’s always good at. It was a great finish as well and it’s something we’ve been working on.”
