Teachers drafted in to school where staff member claims children ‘run feral’.
A teacher at Blairgowrie High has blamed management within the school “from the top down” for creating a crisis in staff recruitment which is undermining pupil discipline.
“The children are running feral, their behaviour is unbelievable,” said the teacher, who spoke to The Courier on condition that they could do so anonymously.
Reacting to the public revelations of a chronic staff shortage at the school, the teacher claimed there was a problem throughout the school in retaining staff – and in particular the maths department.
“I do feel quite strongly about this, I think the parents who have complained about it are quite right,” said the member of staff. “But there are things the parents will not know about.
“The management attitude towards staff is not supportive of teachers. We have a problem here, morale is low.”
The teacher said eight maths teachers had come and gone over a reasonably short space of time which they felt was indicative of the “atmosphere and culture” in the department.
The member of staff said they were not alone in their criticism of the management regime’s running of the school, with many others teachers holding and expressing similar views.
A spokesman for Perth and Kinross Council said: “We do not comment on individual members of staff.”
