UK has to wait for new Subaru XV

- JackMckeoWn

Subaru’s latest crossover has gone on display at the Geneva Motor Show, although UK buyers will have to wait nearly a full year to get their hands on one.

The XV doesn’t go on sale in Britain until 2018 but Subaru buyers are a loyal bunch and I’m sure they’ll be patient.

It’s built on Subaru’s Global Platform, which also underpins the Impreza, and the Japanese company says ride comfort and refinement will both take a major step forward.

Sporting a more muscular and aggressive appearance than the existing model, the new XV features body cladding around its lower edges, air intakes around its front bumper and a larger front grille.

No pictures of the XV’s interior have yet been released but Subaru says it features a new 8in touchscreen infotainment system that includes smartphone connectivity.

It also features an updated version of Subaru’s two-litre Direct Injection Boxer engine, which is lighter and delivers more power and improved fuel economy.

An electronic parking brake has been added for convenience and to bring it more into line with its rivals.

All-wheel-drive remains standard on all models but the new XV also brings something called X-mode which optimises control of the engine, all-wheel drive system and brakes on slippery road surfaces, including when descending hills.

It comes with eyesight system as standard, which brings features such as pre-collision braking control, adaptive cruise control, and lane keep assist function. The XV also offers the Subaru rear vehicle detection system.

There’s no word yet on prices but expect an increase on the current entry tag of £22,180.

?? ?? The new Subaru XV should drive better than the current car and will be packed with technology.
