Plea for help to identify man found dead on village path
Probe: Police renew appeal for information after discovery of man aged between 30 and 40
The identity of a man found dead on the outskirts of Dundee remains a mystery after initial inquiries failed to yield clues about who he is.
Police have renewed their appeal for information after the man, aged between 30 and 40, died suddenly and was discovered on a public footpath near Rosemill Road in Bridgefoot on Tuesday morning.
Despite there being no suspicious circumstances, the grim find has left locals shaken and afraid to go near the area.
There was a large police presence in the village on Tuesday but this appeared to have been scaled down yesterday with no sign of emergency services.
A resident whose house backs on to the footpath said: “It’s tragic to have something like this happening on your doorstep, especially when the person is so young.
“The first I knew of it was when I went down to get my paper and saw all the police cars.
“Looking back, I did see a chap on his own a couple days ago and thought it was odd, because when people go down that path they’re always with someone or with a dog.
“But I can’t be sure of anything. I used to walk on that path quite often but I won’t be doing it now, that’s for sure.”
The man is described as white, about 5ft 6in,of slim build with short dark hair and wearing a blue and grey waterproof jacket, black trousers, black and red walking shoes and a purple rucksack.
Elizabeth Stewart, who lives near Rosemill Road, said: “It’s such a shame for the man. That path is so popular, it’s used by cyclists, runners, walkers and horse-riders.
“They come from all over the place, so we don’t even know if the man was someone local.”
A police spokesman said: “Anyone who recognises the description of this man, or who has any information that could assist in identifying him, is asked to contact Tayside Division on 101.”
