Appeal after garden vandalism

-

Vandals have struck again at a community garden in rural Perthshire.

Thugs ran amok at the Coupar Angus site in May last year, smashing up signs, ripping down flags and slashing poly tunnels.

Now the Caddam Road garden has been targeted for a second time, prompting an appeal to local residents.

A spokeswoman for the project said: “This time the damage was fairly minimal, but it’s totally soul destroying for our group and such a huge shame for this public space.”

Young plants were left damaged and a horsebox used to store tools was broken into. Although nothing appears to have been stolen, items were thrown about the area.

People living nearby have been urged to call police if they see anything suspicious in or around the garden, particularly at dusk.

Dog walkers are also being asked to stay vigilant.

It is the second time the garden has been vandalised since it was launched by charity Forward Coupar Angus three years ago.

The garden was set up to offer local families a free place to grow their own fruit and vegetables.

Volunteers usually work at the garden on Wednesday afternoons, but they have been meeting indoors over the winter months.

Police Scotland has urged anyone with information about the latest attack to call 101.
