Harris FP shrug off woes to beat Wanderers

-

Harris FP shrugged off a lengthy injury list and a sluggish start to see off Aberdeen Wanderers 21-10 in their penultimate match of the BT Caledonia Division One campaign.

The visitors opened the scoring with a converted try and added a penalty before Adam Wood opened the Harris account when he touched down in the corner for an unconverted try that completed the first-half scoring.

However, Harris had the better of the second half and had unconverted tries from Graham Hopkins and Marc Wilson before clinching the win with two penalties from the boot of Wood.

The result means the Elliot Road men have consolidated their status in division one and will finish seventh, regardless of the outcome in their final fixture of the season at Strathmore next Saturday.

Elsewhere, there was a tense encounter at Station Park, where Madras snatched victory in the dying seconds of their Division Three (Midlands) play-off against Grangemouth Stags seconds.

The lead changed hands several times throughout a keenly contested encounter but a try with the final play squared matters and a successful conversion saw the St Andrews men home 29-27.

They will now face Stirling County Bridgehaugh who were also given a stern test before emerging with a 36-20 success over Dundee University Medics.

The decider will take place at Kinross on Saturday, as will the match between the two defeated sides.
