Community leaders unite to condemn terrifying incidents

Community leaders have been united in their condemnation of Tuesday night’s horrific firebomb attacks.

David Nelson, chairman of Auchmuty and Dovecot Tenants Association, said that after difficult times in the 1990s, the Alexander Road area had undergone a lot of changes to re-establish itself as a peaceful community.

Acknowledging that he knows both the Spinks and Naylor families, he said that he could think of no reason as to why they had been targeted.

“I know of the two households that were affected,” he said.

“I cannot think why anybody would want to give them any trouble.

“It’s troubling to think that this has happened here. It’s an absolute disgrace.

“It has been a quiet area for a long time and it’s a place where everybody knows everybody.

“Margaret had a big extension put on her house but that’s never been the source of any problems as far as I know.”

Local councillor Ross Vettraino said: “If this has been a malicious act then we are living in scary times.

“I can’t begin to speculate on what might have happened here but it is very frightening.

“We will have to wait and see how the police get on with their inquiries.”

Fellow councillor Ian Sloan said: “It has been very disturbing to hear about this.

“These two houses must have been targeted and I trust that the police will get to the bottom of it.

“My thoughts are very much with the two families who have been affected by this.”
