Neighbours scared by firebombing

-

A woman who lives next to one of the houses firebombed in Warout on Tuesday night says she is afraid to remain in her home.

Adrian Road resident Sheena Whyte said she had been stunned by the inferno that raged next door following an apparent arson attack on the property.

As police and fire officials began the process of investigating the shell of the property next door, Mrs Whyte said that the nature of Tuesday night’s blaze had alarmed her.

“It was around half past 11 or 11.45pm that I first knew something was happening.

“That was when the fire brigade arrived.

“The family next door only moved in in December, just before Christmas if I remember correctly. They had five children in there I believe and I think one of them got burned.

“Last night was actually the first time that I had ever spoken to the family.

“It’s just a horrible thing to happen to anyone.

“I’ve been here since 1972, a long time, and this has made me think about moving.”

Another resident, who did not wish to be named, said they had known the Spinks family for several years and had been shocked by Tuesday’s dramatic events.

“Maggie is really nice and is a good neighbour,” they said.

“It’s really worrying though as this could have been any one of us.”
