Nowaythroughfor Brechin, but Dods hails fighting spirit

Brechin: Manager glad not to be facing Livingston again this season after fourth defeat

-

Brechin City went down to a 2-0 defeat from leaders Livingston at Glebe Park, and manager Darren Dods revealed after the match that he was pleased about not having to face the West Lothian side again this season.

“That’s the fourth time we’ve played Livi this season and the fourth time we’ve been beaten and I’m just happy that we won’t have to be facing them again this season,” he said.

“They are clearly a really good team who look like they can clinch the league title next weekend.

“Although we’ve tried to alter the way we play against them to try to win, they’ve always proved too strong.”

“They have a massive height advantage in defence which makes things very difficult and they’re always extremely dangerous at set-pieces.

“Having said that, we didn’t start the game as well as we’ve done in recent matches and we found ourselves a goal down after 11 minutes.

“We tried really hard to get back into the match, but finding a way through their defence proved to be really hard,” he said.

“We might have done better at their second goal when we should have moved the ball out of defence a lot quicker, but the players still battled on after that which was to their credit.”

“We’ll now dust ourselves down and get ready for the final five matches of the campaign.”

Livi grabbed the lead in the 11th minute when Sean Crighton played a good ball into the box for Liam Buchanan, who made no mistake from around five yards out.

It was no surprise when the dominant visitors doubled their lead 14 minutes into the second half when Danny Mullen released Buchanan, who then pushed forward into the box before unleashing a tremendous right-foot drive into the top corner of the net.
