Burst water main in Perth
A road in Perth city centre has been temporarily closed due to a burst water main.
Scottish Water confirmed their staff were working “on site” in Melville Street yesterday due to a “complicated” repair and they hoped it would be completed by last night.
The water body stressed the problem had been isolated to ensure no residents had their water supply disrupted.
A spokesperson for Scottish Water said: “Scottish Water staff attended in the early hours of Wednesday morning after reports of no water in the Melville Street area of Perth.
“This was due to a burst water main in the street and staff managed to isolate the affected main to ensure no customers had a disruption to their supply.
“Given the location, near a four-way junction, plans were put in place for traffic management in consultation with Perth and Kinross Council, to allow a full repair and reinstatement to be carried out.”
He continued: “The repair is a complicated one and staff are on site looking to locate the area of pipe causing the burst, in order to make a full repair.
“Once this is complete a full reinstatement of the road surface will be carried out.
“It’s hoped the work will be completed by tomorrow evening.
“Scottish Water apologises for any inconvenience during this complicated repair and thanks customers for their patience.”
