Few surprises expected in final fixtures
The concluding day of scheduled league fixtures should bring few surprises, especially at the top of Division 1, writes our men’s hockey correspondent.
Grange will confirm the league title with a win over Western Wildcats.
Grove Menzieshill will be third, irrespective of their result against Watsonians.
Dundee Wanderers will be confirmed as Division 2 champions with a point against Dundee University but a sizeable win is more likely, to confirm outright promotion.
Inverleith will also want to rack up the goals against Harris but they will surely be focused on a promotion play-off after defeat to Wanderers two weeks ago.
Dundee University and Greenock will complete their outstanding fixtures next weekend but both will be relegated in any event.
Perthshire’s future rests on their fixture at Erskine Stewart’s Melville. The Perth club hold a three-point advantage over Strathclyde University at the top of Division 3 and need a point to confirm the title and promotion.
Strathclyde do not complete their programme until Sunday of next week and are virtually certain to pick up three points against Cala Edinburgh.
Menzieshill II have already won Division 2 in the Central League with only one blemish on their record. It looks certain they will complete their programme with their 17th win, at home to Edinburgh University III.
