First birthday for charitable trust

-

Culture Perth and Kinross, the charitable trust which delivers museum and library services in the region, celebrates its first birthday in style this week.

Events begin with the much anticipated reopening of the AK Bell Library’s popular cafe following a refurbishment.

Celebrated author Peter James, meanwhile, will be talking to fans at St John’s Kirk this evening.

Tomorrow, the attention switches to a free exhibition at The Fergusson Gallery, which will look at JD Fergusson’s proud Perthshire roots.

“Culture Perth and Kinross started on April 1, 2016, taking responsibility for the delivery and development of museums and libraries in Perth and Kinross,” said board chairman Charles Kinnoull.

“Since then it has played its part strongly in cementing Perth’s place as a first-rate cultural destination.

“Events like the Player exhibition last summer and the current Brick City exhibition at Perth Museum and Art Gallery, as well as the first Platform Festival of the Arts, have been highly successful.

“They have proved Perth’s mettle culturally and done exactly what we were set up to do.

“The trust is also at the heart of the Perth 2021 City of Culture bid. The project to redesign both Perth Museum and Art Gallery and Perth City Hall emphasises the strong vision we have for the area’s cultural offering.”
