Corbyn will make pensions pledge on Fife campaign trail
Jeremy Corbyn will promise to protect pensions today when he campaigns in Fife.
The Labour leader will visit Dunfermline this evening, seen by the party as the constituency they are most likely to achieve a respectable result in Courier Country despite there being little realistic chance of it being reclaimed from the SNP.
Mr Corbyn will address the Scottish Trades Union Conference which is being held in Aviemore earlier in the day, speaking before First Minister Nicola Sturgeon.
Mr Corbyn will say: “(Labour) will upgrade our economy to create wealth for all through investment in our infrastructure, helping our small businesses, delivering high skill jobs and ending poverty pay.”
Mr Corbyn announced yesterday that a Labour government will seek to create four new UK-wide bank holidays on the patron saint’s day of each of the home nations.
SNP leader Ms Sturgeon will tell delegates that the general election is a straight fight between her party and the Conservatives in Scotland.
She will say: “The more Tory MPs there are, the heavier the price Scotland will pay.
“They’re already cutting nearly £3 billion from the Scottish budget.”
Meanwhile, union leaders themselves have argued that Scotland should be given new powers so it can take a “distinctly different” approach to issues such as immigration and employment rights.
