BIRNAM & DUNKELD. The annual meeting, also the final meeting of the season, took place at the Birnam Institute on April 18. Hazel Ward gave a talk and demonstration on making Roman blinds. Meetings recommence on the third Tuesday of the month from September.
BRIDGE OF EARN. President Wilma Scott welcomed members and guests. Names were taken for a group meeting on April 24. Ladies from Forteviot provided an evening of entertainment. Competitions: Easter bonnet – 1 I Thomas, 2 M Folan, 3 N Blair; flower of the month – 1 W Scott, 2 J Byrne, 3 N Blair.
CLEISH. President Helen Buchanan introduced Donna and Claudia Kirkwood from HandbagParties, who displayed an extensive selection of handbags, purses and scarfs. She also thanked and congratulated all the participants in the spring show; in particular Hayley Cassells, who won the Margaret Folan Quaich for the Novice section and thanked and congratulated all the participants in the SWI National Curling Competition. Competitions: Easter bonnet – 1 S Webster, 2 A Doig, 3 E Craig; three decorated Easter cupcakes – 1 H Buchanan, 2 F McGregor, 3 M Bisset; flower of the month – 1 L Hewitt, 2 E Craig, 3 F Gibb.
COLLACE and KINROSSIE. President Janet Rougvie introduced PC Blair Wilkie, Tayside wildlife liaison officer, who spoke about her role and about rural crime. Competitions: miniature garden – 1 C Strathie, 2 J Rougvie; three herbie scones – 1 J Rougvie, 2 S Gray.
CROOK OF DEVON. President Alice Johnson welcomed members to the annual coffee evening and introduced Kelty Musical Association, which provided entertainment with songs from some well-known shows.
DRIMMIEBURN and MEIKLEOUR. Christine Fleming welcomed members and introduced Ashleigh Slater, who spoke about his love of weaving and his shop in Blairgowrie. Competitions: a dressed peg – E Christie; flower of the month – D Willet.
DUNNING. President Lesley Macrae welcomed members and visitors from Rhynd who provided an evening of entertainment. The ladies were then given a hat and materials to decorate it with. Competitions: flower arrangement in a shell – 1 M Potter, 2 B Taylor; flower of the month – 1 N Ross, 2 M Palmer.
ERROL. President Helen Mitchell introduced Douglas Watson, who spoke about the history of chocolate, how it came about, how it came to Europe and the different types of chocolate and how these are made. Competitions: three chocolate truffles – 1 M Kelly, 2 J Lawson, 3 B Lewis; fancy egg cup – 1 J Lawson, 2 M Kelly, 3 G Fairbairn; flower of the month – J Lawson.
GLENCARSE. President Norma Butcher introduced Tracey Gallatley, who spoke about recognising the symptoms of a stroke. Competitions: get well card – 1 C Forbes, 2 B Coghill; pill container – 1 C Forbes, 2 B Coghill.
GLENFARG. Members of Auchterarder provided entertainment that kept the laughter and fun going all evening. Competitions: covered coathanger – 1 A Messenger, 2 S Harley, 3 A Harrison; small simnel cake – 1 A Messenger, 2 L Stuart, 3 A Harrison; flower of the month – 1 A Messenger, 2 H Quartermaine , 2 A Harrison.
KINLOCH. President Elspeth Campbell introduced Arthur Lawrence, who demonstrated container gardening that allows vegetables to be grown in pots and growbags with the minimum of effort. LOGIEALMOND. Members walked around the centre of Perth and the Inches in the company of members of Methven SWI, before refreshments at the Royal George Hotel. Competition: Easter bonnet – 1 C McInlay, 2 E Drummond.
LONGFORGAN and DISTRICT. President Isabel Taylor introduced Clare McInroy, red squirrel project officer for Angus and Perthshire, who spoke about saving red squirrels in Tayside. Competitions: woodland collage – G Christie; flower of the month – P Durajczyk.
MADDERTY. Tony ReemanClark from Strathearn Gin gave a talk about his gin-making business, the different gins produced and how to drink them. Competitions: three shortbread fingers – 1 H Harrison, 2 F Haggart, 3 I Robertson; decorated hard-boiled egg – 1 J Freeman, 2 F Haggart, 3 L Smith; flower of the month – 1 E Watson, 2 I Robertson, 3 L Willsher.
RHYND. Norah Winyard welcomed members and introduced Bill Nicol, who spoke about being a BBC cameraman. Competitions: favourite house plant – 1 F Todd, 2 M Dalziel; three fruit slices – F Ashton; flower of the month – M Dalziel.
STRATHALLAN. President Susan Gray welcomed members and visitors and introduced John Boyd from Auchterarder Bloom Association, who spoke about the volunteer work done by its members. Competitions: half-pound jar of three-fruit marmalade – C Taylor; favourite houseplant – 1 L Buchan, 2 J Shanks, 3 C Taylor; Easter cupcake – 1 C Taylor, 2 L Buchan, 3 J McConnell.
