Guy picks up fourth gold in Sheffield
James Guy collected his fourth gold medal of the week as the British Swimming Championships concluded in Sheffield last night.
Guy beat a strong field to glory in the 200m freestyle, edging out Scot Duncan Scott, to add to his 100m, 200m and 400m butterfly victories earlier in the week.
“I really wanted that one,” Guy said.
“It’s a nice way to finish the championships.
“I’m glad for Duncan and Calum (Jarvis) but it’s a tough field and I think everyone did a great job and it was a fast final.”
Scott’s time in second place – a personal best of 1:45.80 – was good enough to put him in consideration for the world championships in Budapest.
Sarah Vasey came through a tough battle to win the 100m breaststroke, and her new personal best time of 1:06.78 also puts her in consideration for Budapest.
Ben Proud set a new British record of 22.80 in winning the 50m butterfly.
Alys Thomas set a new personal best of 57.85 to win the 100m butterfly, while Luke Greenback took gold in the 200m backstroke.
Meanwhile Glenrothes swimmer Mark Szaranek has picked up a silver in the 400m individual medley in a personal best 4.15.51 and a qualifying time for Commonwealth Games.
