ANALYSIS

Not a lot new was gleaned from this match as far as Dundee United were concerned.

The outstanding home record was extended and the impression that this is a side with enough strong characters in it for whatever adversity it comes up against on its home turf was reinforced.

The ability of Tony Andreu to show his class when others around him are toiling is nothing new either.

However, the negative traits of the side are still prevalent as well – switching off at critical moments and a general lack of creativity and fluency through midfield and attack.

The stage we have now reached in the season, there isn’t likely to be a dramatic dip in form or a dramatic upturn.

This isn’t a team who have a nine out of 10 or a two out of 10 in their locker these days.

Whether it is after two games or four, I can definitely envisage United winning their way through to the shoot-out with the second bottom Premiership side.

Morton peaked a couple of months ago and United and Falkirk are as evenly matched as the league table suggests.

Beating a top flight side over two legs, though? The evidence isn’t there to make that leap of faith yet.
