OPERATIC: Past and present members and friends of the Perth Amateur Operatic Society are invited to join them in celebratin­g their 70th anniversar­y in style with dinner, drinks and dancing to the Solid Gold band. The ball is on Friday May 5 at 7pm at the Royal George Hotel, Perth. BIRNAM: A table top sale organised by the local SNP branch will be held in The Birnam Arts Centre, Station Road, Birnam, on Saturday April 29 from 10am to 1pm. Stalls will include handmade jewellery, home baking, knitted and felt crafts, wool and silk scarves, upcycled items and furniture, botanical beauty products and bric-abrac. There will also be books, raffles, tombolas and face painting.

FOOTBALL: Soccersixe­s, a new six-a-side community football league is being held on Monday evenings at McDiarmid Park in Perth. The league will run between 8pm and 10pm each week and is aimed at over 16s. All equipment is provided and the league is FA affiliated with qualified referees. GARDENING: Morrisons in Perth is giving away used coffee grounds from its in store café to local gardeners, to help fertilise their plants.

Perth’s gardeners can get the used coffee grounds by visiting the store on Caledonian Road and picking up a bag from a dedicated stand within its café. Used coffee grounds are a source of nitrogen which is needed by plants to grow.

FOLK CLUB: Glenfarg Folk Club is holding a ”singaround” on the theme of numbers, Backstage at The Green Hotel, Kinross, on Monday May 1 and will welcome “Melbourne’s best busker”, Jenny Biddle, on Monday May 8.
