‘Glitch’ tickets priced £10,000 for 64-mile trip
A technical glitch has been blamed after first class train tickets between two towns 64 miles apart were reportedly being sold for £10,000.
The price is said to have been quoted for a ticket between Taunton, Somerset, and Trowbridge, Wiltshire, to travel on June 20 – £9,987.30 more expensive than the standard class fare. It would cost about £156 a minute for the trip, which has a change at Westbury.
A Great Western Railway spokesman told the Wiltshire Times: “We are aware of an IT glitch which has published fares for a first class journey that does not exist.
“Anytime single fares between Taunton and Trowbridge are available from £12.70.”
