Tyler is top rod

In heat one of the SANACC National Fly Fishing Championship last week, 37 anglers weighed in 101 fish for 230lb and returned 174 at Lake of Menteith.

The rod average (using the mean weight of fish weighed) was 7.43 fish for 16lb 15oz. However, returned fish were assumed to be 2lb which lowers the competition rod average to 15lb 13oz.

The top rod on the day was Tyler Hay with 25 trout. Tyler was fishing a midge tip with a washing line setup with fab and buzzers/diawls and shared a boat with Kevin McCabe, who was fourth with 15 fish. They picked up their fish all over – Lochend, Out from Lochend, Butts, Hotel Bay.

In second place was Neil Barret with 19 and Steve Bett was third with 16.
