Pars loan star Herron to leave Blackpool for free in summer

-

Dunfermline loan star John Herron is set for a permanent return to Scottish football this summer after agreeing his exit from Blackpool.

The former Celtic starlet has one year left to run on his contract with the Seasiders but, after talks with their hierarchy this week, he will be allowed to leave for free in the close season.

Herron has impressed for the Pars this term, making 26 appearances after joining the club last August and helping the East End Park outfit secure survival in their first campaign back in the second tier.

Allan Johnston seems certain to be among the suitors eyeing a swoop, while several other Championship sides are monitoring the situation.

“It was agreed this week that I could go for free,” confirmed Herron.

“I didn’t want any money or anything like that so there’s an arrangement to pay up my contract.

“I’ve not one bad word to say about the club. I was happy I done it (moved to Blackpool), but at the same time I’m happy to be back home.”

Herron, who has also turned out for Cowdenbeath, joined Blackpool in 2015 after being released by Celtic and enjoyed a bright start to life in England with 18 outings for the Tangerines.

However, he found himself out of favour at Bloomfield Road when Gary Bowyer replaced Neil McDonald last summer following their relegation from League One and, after just two appearances this season, made the loan switch to Fife.

Meanwhile Falkirk forward Myles Hippolyte has been handed a two-match ban for diving to win the penalty that brought them level during Saturday’s 2-1 win over Dunfermline.
