Early morning traffic problems

-

Traffic ground to a virtual halt in and around Perth yesterday morning after an accident and a separate breakdown on the A90.

A one-vehicle accident at 7am, on the eastbound route between Perth to Dundee at Kinfauns, led to tailbacks reaching back as far as the Friarton Bridge.

The road was reduced to one lane as emergency services carried out investigations at the scene following the accident.

It is understood no one was seriously injured as a result but the incident appeared to have a knock-on effect with traffic busier than usual on Dundee Road in Perth.

A spokesman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said they had been called to a one-vehicle accident on the A90 Perth to Dundee road at 7am.

“One vehicle was involved but no one was trapped,” the spokesman said.

Motorists also had to contend with a breakdown northbound on the M90, approaching the Broxden roundabout, shortly after 8am.

This led to traffic being restricted to one lane, with resulting queues causing further frustration for commuters already caught up in other incidents.

Delays were also experienced by drivers using the Perth bypass through the ongoing roadworks between the Inveralmond and Broxden roundabouts, which are taking place as part of the Cross Tay Link Road project.
