Sailing club hopes to entice new generation on to the water

-

Sailing enthusiasts are hoping the stunning surroundings of Loch Tummel will entice a new generation to the pastime.

The local sailing club is one of a number nationally taking part in the Royal Yachting Association’s Push the Boat Out scheme.

It will be hosting an open day on Saturday May 20, between 11am and 4pm to introduce more people to the pastime.

A spokesperson said: “We will be offering trips with an experienced sailor and an opportunity to have a go yourself under safe, supervised conditions, absolutely free of charge.”

Participants will cast off from the club at Foss, on the south side of the loch, where refreshments will be available.

In addition to weekly Sunday racing, the club offers monthly “Ladies who Launch” events, together with children’s holiday camps and the annual Tummel Week, which offers sailing for all standards and activities for all ages.

During 2017, the club will be reintroducing monthly Family Saturdays and also hopes to trial some midweek evening sails.
