Immigration threat to future generations

- Derek Farmer. Knightsward Farm, Anstruther.

Sir, - It is all very well for your correspondent Allan MacDougall to criticise John Cameron for his remarks on the root causes of poverty in Scotland.

What he totally fails to recognise is that we live today in a global economy that is based upon capitalist practices and where UK employers, due to the increasingly free movement of people, are enabled to find employees outwith the UK who will work here for lower pay and conditions than would apply to indigenous workers.

The SNP actually encourages open-door immigration that will seriously disadvantage our own children over time.

There is a continuing trend towards overpopulation in the world and ever greater competition for jobs.

If our society and our schools could begin to re-apply the social and educational discipline that has been progressively eroded over the past 40-plus years, then perhaps we might begin to see a more responsible attitude being taken by our rising generations instead of dependency on the state.

This dependency has been encouraged for far too long by a succession of irresponsible politicians more concerned with their own personal circumstances and selfimportance than in the administration of strategies for the future wellbeing of the United Kingdom.
