Spiders can do St Andrews a favour

-

Downfield can do St Andrews a big favour by beating visitors Whitburn, who need just three points from their three remaining games to send Saints down.

The Spiders, who still hope to finish in the top half, will be keen to atone for last week’s debacle at home to Arniston, when they finished with just nine men.

Craig Smith and Mark Bannon are injured, Jordan Timmons is suspended, and Jack Neave and Robert Smith are doubtful.

Violet’s demotion was confirmed by their 3-1 midweek defeat at Sauchie.

Kevin Scott gave the Pansies an early lead.

However, a converted penalty brought Sauchie level before the break.

It was all over after the hosts scored two early second-half goals.

Pansies boss Ralph Henderson will make a late selection but Barry Wilson, Ciaran Conway, Aaron Kane, Connor McLeod, Dave O’Neill, Mitchell Hay and Kit Bremner are unavailable.
