-

Staff at a local opticians are being trained to help customers with dementia.

To mark National Dementia Week, which begins today, the Specsavers employees will undertake a course run by the Alzheimer’s Society.

The training focuses on the ways in which the disease can affect different people, and how it affects hearing and vision.

Sharon Phillips, of the Perth store, said: “I always thought dementia was to do with someone’s memory, but it is much more than that.

“By uncovering the truth about dementia, it really opened my eyes to how we at Specsavers, when performing our daily duties, can take a little time to support and care.”
