Meg named citizen of the year

-

Pitlochry Rotary club has named their Citizen of the Year for 2017.

Margaret ‘Meg’ Fallon is known to many in the town through her work at the local Co-op, where she has worked for 18 years.

However less well known is her talent for fundraising, which is estimated to have given a £20,000 boost to charity over the years.

A Pitlochry Rotary Club spokesman said: “Meg is a member of the customer service team and is well known for going the extra mile with customers. She very often sends you back down the aisle when there is a two-for-one deal going that you missed.

“What many people do not know is just how much of her own time is spent on raising money for charitable causes such as the Air Ambulance Service, the British Red Cross and many other local charities. She spends hours collecting raffle prizes from local donors and sells tickets in the store outwith her own working hours.

“A conservative estimate has been put on her fundraising over the past few years and it is in excess of £20,000.”

The Citizen of the Year award is open to all those living in the area of Pitlochry, Blair Atholl and Ballinluig. Nominees all play an important part in community life.

As well as receiving a trophy and £200 to donate to a charity of her choice, Meg will also receive gift vouchers worth a further £200.
